Thanks tried to scan using a good / potiential virus scanner ? nowadays there's lots of ppl creating alien bots to jammed our motherboard.
it might be an attack of clones / trojans / worms in your memory. normally, these type of viruses, override your cmos and making inpropoer adjustment, tht causes your system to hang. use something like : can u try the ram sticks in another pc?
once the worm loaded into the memory, system becomes slow, overloaded and down.. or tray to download ram tester from will need a blank diskette and create a tester disk you need to put the disk in the floppy drive, change boot sequence to boot from floppy and reboot the system *after a complete shutdown* Try to set ur BIOS settings to Default/Optimal alternatively to see if it helps with the crashes.
Then I thought it may have been because of low wattage because I briefly had a 350w psu in there - but have gone back up to my 450w now and it still happens. I'm really hoping it's RAM now but I ran a memory tester a week or so ago and it didn't find anything :( I don't want to be buying new things in the hope it might be that - my wallet is feeling the heat already... I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing.
I guess the only way to find out is to get hold of a decent video card. Does anyone know what the series of beeps I described actually means?
Also its possible the some windows file might be corrupted beyond help in wheich case you might wanna reinstall windows and see if the problem reoccurs.
The RAM does not seem to be the problem although you can put your RAM test in the BIOS to slow and not FAST so that the RAM is also tested thoroughly besides the simmtester programm. It's a new day for me here so I guess I'll run the virus scanner, play around with the bios a bit and double check the memory.
